We will not be able to attend the Oshawa Market, Friday August 9, 2024.
We have regrettably concluded the Market Dollar Program at all participating markets for the year. It has been an overwhelming response to the program this year and sadly the amount of interest has caused us to wrap up the program earlier than expected.
While we prioritize those facing food insecurity, we are dedicated to making fresh produce (local and organic when possible) available to everyone.
The market dollars are intended to create a dignified experience for everyone that would like to take part in the farmer’s market.
As local food grower, we believe in supporting local farmers and local businesses.
This program ensure that farmers/growers aren’t having to assume the pressures of subsidizing their costs in response to food insecurity. We believe that farmers should be fully compensated for the essential work they do.
Pickering Farmer’s Market: 1867 Valley Farm Rd, Pickering. Tuesdays 9am – 2pm
Whitby Farmer’s Market (Whitby Library): 405 Dundas St. W, Whitby. Wednesdays 9am – 3pm
Oshawa Farmer’s Market (Oshawa Centre): 419 King Street West, Oshawa. Fridays 7am – 2pm (Located in the Northwest Parking Lot – Stevenson & King)
Participants received a voucher from their respective family service agency
(primary method) which they then redeemed for market dollars at the Common Ground booth at the Whitby Farmer’s Market. The participants used those market dollars to purchase fresh produce from the different vendors.
Alternatively (a secondary method) individuals could directly approach the table and receive a nominal amount.
Your support and contributions will enable us to get more food onto more tables. Your generous donation will feed those facing food insecurity.
